Places to Visit in Samos Island
Samos is one of the Greek islands that stands out for its stunning beaches and beautiful natural scenery. A great place for a vacation in nature! The capital of the island is Vathi, but a drive along the coastline will take you to many picturesque seaside villages such as Kokkari, Pythagorion, Karlovassi, and Heraion.

Heraion Sanctuary
- Heraion
Legend has it that the goddess Hera was born and raised here. For this reason, a sanctuary belonging to Hera (Heraion) was built in ancient times. The temple was destroyed for an unknown reason in the 6th century BC, its renovation was never completed, and later the sanctuary was converted into a Christian church.
Eupalinus Tunnel

This tunnel has dried up today, but it was once the aqueduct of the ancient city of Samos and one of the greatest technological achievements of antiquity.
Lykourgos Logothetis Castle

Built by Lykourgos Logothetis, the leader of the Samos Revolution in the 19th century, against the Turks, this castle has two Roman galleries and a beautiful church in its courtyard.
Archeology Museum
- Vathy
The Vathy Archaeological Museum is located close to the port and houses the findings from excavations on the island from Prehistoric to Hellenistic periods. The most impressive exhibit is the Colossal Kouros, a 5.5 m tall male sculpture.
Pythagorion Archeology Museum

Located within the Pythagorion Town Hall, the museum contains statues, inscriptions, statues and tomb fragments from the archaic and Roman periods.
Roman Baths

Just outside Pythagorion, on the airport road, are the remains of a large Hellenistic gymnasium. During the Roman period, this gym was converted into a hammam.
Cave of Pythagoras

This cave is where the famous mathematician Pythagoras hid while his political opponents chased after him. It is located on a steep cliff on the western side of the island, close to Marathokambos.
Samos Wine Museum

The Samos Wine Museum is housed in a magnificent 19th-century stone building that originally operated as a private winery and later as a warehouse and barrel-making facility. Converted to a Museum in 2005, it showcases artifacts from the defining history of Samos wine.
Folklore Museum
- Pythagorion
Housed in the Doryssa Bay Hotel, the Folklore Museum depicts daily life on the island since the Second World War and includes agricultural tools, clothing, furniture and other exhibits.
Panagia Spiliani Monastery

The Monastery of Panagia Spiliani is located on a hill in Pythagorion, and its location offers a wonderful view of the city and the port.
Samiopula Island

Natural History Museum

The Natural History Museum houses a private collection in the village of Mitilli. Its exhibits include fossils of animals that lived on the island of Samos millions of years ago. It also has a collection of minerals and rare stones.
Monastery of Prophet Elias

The Elijah Prophet Monastery was built in the 17th century and restored by the monk Gregorios in the 18th century and is located 4 km south of Karlovassi.
Transfiguration of the Christ Church
- Pythagorion
The Church of the Christ is located right next to the Logothetis Castle in Pythagorion. It was built in the 1830s by Lykourgos Logothetis, the leader of the Samos Revolution, after a victory over the Turks.
Leather Tanning Museum

Tanning, once one of the most important sectors of the island, now presents its history as a museum in a former leather processing factory in Karlovassi.
